Workshop Summary: Fit-for-Purpose Animal Models for TB Research
22 April 2026
On 20 January 2026, the Stop TB Partnership Working Group on New TB Vaccines (WGNV) convened a virtual, discussion-driven workshop focused on fit-for-purpose animal models for TB research. The aim of the workshop was to critically examine how well existing animal models reflect the human spectrum of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and TB disease, and how these models can be leveraged to generate human-relevant outcomes, including improved understanding of resistance to infection and containment of disease, and linking findings to human trials in support of TB vaccine development.
