From Dependence to Self-Reliance: The Future of the Global TB Response

Just as TB services were recovering after the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions, abrupt funding cuts by G7 nations are putting progress at risk. These trends, while perilous, also reveal a turning point toward a more equitable, resilient, and self-reliant TB response, led by high burden countries.
A perspective, published in PLOS Medicine, argues that the TB response should redefine itself as a strategic investment in health security, equity, and universal health coverage, while leveraging progress in innovations.
An opinion article, published in Devex, further elaborates on the key role of the affordable TB diagnostics innovations developed in the Global South in offering a path forward for high burden countries to help close the testing gap and save lives.
