Development Journal | Infections Post-Inequalities: Realizing the End of TB Through Equitable Economic Orders
28 September 2026
A publication in Development explores TB as a proxy metric for the failure to dismantle colonial structures in global health and to realize the rights to health and science. Revisiting Paul Farmer’s insights from his 1999 book, Infections and Inequalities, on the relationship between disease, inequality, and colonialism in the political and economic order, the paper argues for fair taxation rights, debt cancellation, and structural reform. These steps are necessary to realize robust, sustainable, and country-financed health systems that free the world of TB and other diseases of poverty.
