Climate Change and TB: An Analytical Framework

30 October 2025

Climate change is likely to exacerbate a range of determinants that drive TB, the world’s leading cause of death from a single infectious agent. However, TB is often neglected in wider climate health discussions. The World Health Organization commissioned the creation of an analytical framework to outline potential causal relationships between climate change and TB.

A position paper, published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, described the creation of the framework and its comparison to existing evidence, identified research domains in the area of climate change and TB critically lacking in evidence, and suggested examples of entry points for intervention.
