Civil Society Continues Advocacy Efforts to Improve Access to TB Medicines in Western Europe

1 August 2025

Representatives of 10 non-governmental organizations engaged in TB advocacy came together for an online coordination meeting organized by TB Europe Coalition to strengthen civil society efforts to improve access to TB medicines in Western Europe.

This meeting built on the discussion held in March and aimed to address the key challenges raised there — in particular, medicine shortages, lack of drug registration, and procurement difficulties.

Participants shared up-to-date information about the situation with TB medicines in Western European countries and the urgent steps they are currently taking in response. One of the major barriers identified was the TB’s exclusion from broader EU health security and critical medicine frameworks.

Considering the current landscape, partners identified next steps at both the regional and national levels. They also discussed ways for civil society to strengthen coordination of advocacy efforts ahead of the upcoming WHO Regional Committee meeting in September.

If your organization operates in Western Europe and would like to join civil society efforts to improve access to TB medicines, please contact TB Europe Coalition Program Manager Vlada Rabinova at rabinova@tbcoalition.eu.
